Delivering books and educational materials to children in rural provinces like Hà Giang and Sapa
Fundraising campaign organized by
BrightHope Foundation
Every child deserves the chance to learn.
In the breathtaking highlands of Hà Giang and Sapa, where mist-covered mountains stretch endlessly, children grow up in a world far removed from the modern conveniences of Vietnam’s bustling cities. Life in these remote villages is marked by resilience and hardship—families rely on subsistence farming, and many children start working at an early age to help support their households.
Yet, despite their determination to learn, these children face immense barriers to education. Schools in these areas are often underfunded and poorly equipped, with dilapidated classrooms, outdated textbooks, and a severe shortage of learning materials. Many students walk for hours each day to reach school, navigating treacherous mountain paths in extreme weather conditions, only to sit in classrooms where even basic resources like notebooks and pencils are scarce.
For these children, education is a fragile opportunity, one that is easily disrupted by poverty, lack of access, and systemic neglect. Our mission is to change that reality by delivering books and essential educational materials—giving them the tools they need to dream, learn, and build a brighter future.

Education in the highlands: a system struggling to reach every child
Vietnam has made significant strides in education over the past few decades, boasting one of the highest literacy rates in Southeast Asia. However, this progress has not been equally distributed. In major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, students have access to modern schools, well-trained teachers, and digital learning tools. But in the rural and mountainous regions of northern Vietnam, education remains a daily struggle.
Why is education in Hà Giang and Sapa so challenging?
- Geographical isolation – Many villages are located hours away from the nearest school, forcing children to make dangerous, long-distance commutes or drop out entirely.
- Severe lack of resources – Rural schools operate with minimal funding, making it difficult to provide up-to-date textbooks, libraries, or even basic stationery.
- Teacher shortages – Many qualified teachers prefer to work in urban areas, leaving rural schools with understaffed classrooms and untrained educators.
- Economic hardship – With many families living in poverty, education often takes a backseat to immediate survival needs. Children are expected to help in the fields, tend livestock, or take care of younger siblings, making school attendance inconsistent.
- Limited access to Vietnamese-language books – Many children in Hà Giang and Sapa belong to ethnic minority communities (such as the H'Mong, Dao, and Tay), who grow up speaking their indigenous languages. But Vietnam’s school curriculum is taught in Vietnamese, making it even harder for them to learn without proper bilingual learning materials.
The result? High dropout rates, poor literacy levels, and a cycle of poverty that continues for generations. Without intervention, many children in these communities will never have the chance to fully explore their potential.

What we are doing to help
We believe that books should not be a privilege, but a right for every child. Our campaign focuses on delivering educational materials directly to children in the most underserved areas — because when children have access to books, they have a chance to dream beyond their immediate circumstances.
How our program works
- Delivering essential school supplies – We provide students with notebooks, pens, backpacks, and writing materials to ensure they have the basics they need to succeed.
- Supplying bilingual and culturally relevant books – Many children struggle with literacy because they are forced to learn in a second language. We distribute bilingual books in Vietnamese and indigenous languages to bridge the gap and make learning easier.
- Building mini-libraries in schools and community centers – To encourage a culture of reading, we help set up small book collections in classrooms, giving children a space where they can read freely and explore new ideas.
- Supporting teachers with additional learning materials – A great teacher can change a child's life, but they need the right tools to do so. We provide teacher guides, activity books, and supplementary materials to help improve classroom learning.
The long-term impact of education
A single book can open up a world of possibilities. Education is more than just acquiring knowledge — it’s about giving children the confidence and skills to shape their own future.
By improving literacy and school participation, we are:
- Increasing the number of children who complete their education instead of dropping out due to lack of resources.
- Empowering ethnic minority children to learn in both their native language and Vietnamese, improving literacy rates.
- Breaking the cycle of poverty by giving children access to higher education opportunities in the future.
- Inspiring young minds to dream bigger — whether they want to become doctors, teachers, or community leaders, education is the first step.
Every contribution helps change a child’s life. Whether it’s a single notebook, a schoolbag, or a set of books, every donation ensures that a child in Hà Giang or Sapa can continue their education with dignity and hope.

For Ryan, this project represents a unique way to give back through his craft. Instead of simply donating or selling his work, he wanted to create an interactive experience where art becomes a vehicle for real-world impact.
As part of this initiative, donors who contribute to the campaign will receive a limited-edition digital asset of Ryan’s artwork as a token of appreciation for their support. This approach not only makes philanthropy more engaging but also deepens the connection between artists, supporters, and the cause.
Ryan believes that this method of fundraising allows people to feel more directly involved, making their contributions feel more tangible and rewarding. By offering his work as a gift rather than a product, he hopes to encourage more people to participate and raise awareness about the importance of education in these rural communities.
What I love about this initiative is that it transforms art into a tool for change. Instead of selling my work, I’m offering it as a way to thank those who believe in the cause. It’s a beautiful exchange—supporters get exclusive content, and together, we help fund a meaningful project. It proves that art isn’t just something to admire; it can also be a catalyst for action, bringing people together to create real, tangible change
